Gord Johns, Member of Parliament for Courtenay-Alberni, is hosting an Earth Day bike ride and barbeque event in Port Alberni April 22, 2017. The family-friendly event is free of charge and open to the public.
“Earth Day is about appreciating the complex nature of planet Earth and bringing awareness to our relationship with it,” said MP Johns. “It’s more important now than ever we celebrate Earth Day.”
MP Johns, an avid cyclist, will gear up for a short bike ride around the Harbour Quay, introduce his private member’s bill C-312: A National Cycling Strategy, and speak with residents.
Community members are encouraged to bring their bikes down to the Harbour Quay for a free barbeque lunch and live music. The Earth Day Ride and Barbeque is organized in collaboration with Cycle Alberni and the Young Professionals of Alberni Valley, who will unveil new bike racks at the event.
Earth Day is especially meaningful for MP Johns who is the founder of Tofino Earth Day and Tofino Earth Week, organizing the events for over a decade. Earth Day is celebrated in more than 190 countries worldwide on April 22 annually.
