LING 181 Introductory Linguistics for Language
Revitalization (1.5 units)

This course is an introduction to linguistic science, with a focus on tools that
are useful for the revitalization of the Nuuchahnulth language. Topics include:

• The nature of sound systems and how they relate to orthographies, word
structures and dictionaries
• Sentence structures and understanding texts, meaning and vocabulary
• Linguistic aspects of language acquisition and historical change

Dates: May 5- 7, 2017 and May 26- 28, 2017
Time: 9 am – 5 pm, Friday and Saturday
9 am – noon, Sunday

Location: Hupacasath First Nation House of Gathering
5500 Ahahswinis Drive, Port Alberni
