Post Secondary Counsellor (Term)

The Education Department of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) is seeking a backfill-term, full-time Post Secondary Counsellor to guide students in their education planning, enrolment process and readiness for various post-secondary programs. Based out of Port Alberni, the Post Secondary Counsellor is a member of an enthusiastic and proactive team that supports a students’ (from high school to post-secondary) in their education path to success.

Responsibilities will include:

- Manage a caseload of clients/students and assist student in preparing for career goals in conjunction with their post-secondary plans
- Responsible for meeting with students at their respective institutions on a regular basis
- Actively recruits Nuu-chah-nulth students into post-secondary studies
- Assist students with personal/academic problems
- Assist in processing student payments
- Attend College, University, and First Nations Advisory Boards as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

- Requires University degree and a minimum of three years’ experience working in a similar capacity
- Counselling skills, with training in assessments and referrals
- Experience working in a First Nations environment or being a First Nations person will be considered an asset
- Knowledge of Nuu-chah-nulth values, culture and traditions
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and people skills
- Must have a vehicle and valid drivers’ licence
- Provide acceptable references and criminal record check
- Flexibility to work weekday evenings and on weekends as needed
- Provide acceptable references and criminal record check
- Must have a car, valid driver’s license, and able to travel to NTC Communities
