Elders Navigator

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) Usma Family & Child Services (F&CS) is seeking a qualified individual to serve in the role of Elders Navigator who will be responsible for the coordination of access to Elders for Nuu-chah-nulth children, youth in care, their families, and the larger Usma F&CS team. Programming may include caregivers, birth family and/or community members, and Usma employees. The Elders Navigator works alongside agency employees, community members and others and strives to promote cultural connection in the lives of Nuu-chah-nulth children and youth in care and out of care and their families.

Responsibilities Include:

▪ Work with local, Nuu-chah-nulth communities, agencies and representatives to ensure the development of culturally appropriate services
▪ Facilitate Elders’ meetings and luncheons to plan how best to support Nuu-chah-nulth children and youth in care and families, and out-of-care children and youth who continue to receive services
▪ Collaborate with community partners and Nuu-chah-nulth Nations to organize events and activities
▪ Work with other staff, community agencies and volunteers to create Elder focused programs for Nuu-chah-nulth children and youth in care and out of care and their families
▪ Maintain case notes, files and recordings in an accountable manner
▪ Produce monthly, quarterly and annual reports regarding the services provided

Preferred Qualifications:

▪ Post-secondary education, preferably in the field of human services, social work, community development, public administration or in any related field of social sciences
▪ Minimum one (1) year direct experience
▪ Knowledge and direct connection to Nuu-chah-nulth culture and traditions
▪ Understand the history of child welfare practices and the impacts on Nuu-chah-nulth families and communities
▪ Experience working with Nuu-chah-nulth communities
▪ Capable of working flexible hours to meet the projected outcomes
▪ Possess a valid BC Driver’s License and have daily access to reliable vehicle
▪ Provide an acceptable criminal background check
