Salmon Parks Coordinator (Term Employment)

Uu-a-thluk (NTC Fisheries), is seeking a term (to March 31, 2021), full-time Salmon Parks Coordinator to support Nuu-chah-nulth Nations in the creation of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) that look after salmon ecosystems in keeping with Nuu-chah-nulth laws and cultural practices. Based out of Port Alberni, the position involves close work with Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, the Uu-a-thluk Salmon Parks team, and partner organizations.

• Coordinate the activities of the Uu-a-thluk Salmon Parks team, including the formalization of a strategic planning document and work plan
• Provide logistical support to the Salmon Laws project underway with Central and Northern Region Nuu-chah-nulth Nations and West Coast Environmental Law
• Liaise with Nuu-chah-nulth Nations and community members around Salmon Parks activities
• Assist with the preparation of technical analyses and GIS products as needed for Salmon Parks proposals
• Lead the development of funding proposals to support the Salmon Parks initiative
• Prepare reporting products on the Salmon Parks initiative as required for NTC management, the Council of Ha’wiih Forum on Fisheries, and funders

Wage: $28.20/hr. to 34.87/hr. depending on qualifications and experience

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
• Degree or Diploma in science or management related to conservation
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working on conservation related initiatives
• Experience working with First Nation communities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational abilities
• Strong computer skills and familiarity with MS Office and GIS software
• Experience organizing and facilitating meetings
• Demonstrated patience, tact, diplomacy, sensitivity, and commitment to confidentiality
• Knowledge of Nuu-chah-nulth governance, culture and traditions; or being a First Nations person will be considered an asset
• Possess a valid BC Driver’s License and have daily access to a reliable vehicle
• Provide references and an acceptable criminal record check
