The Search Continues for BC’s Next Singing Sensation

Aspiring vocalists across the province are once again invited to audition for Variety’s Got Talent presented by Coast Capital Savings. The winner of the 3rdannual competition will receive a Rising Star music package and appear on the Variety Show of Hearts Telethon Feb. 16and Feb. 17, 2013.

Finalists will have the rare opportunity of performing before a panel of music industry and celebrity judges, including music manager Bruce Allen and Global BC’s Steve Darling.

The competition is open to all BC residents ages 13 to 29. Audition videos should be submitted to www.varietysgottalent.cafrom Jan. 2 to Jan. 16, 2013. Variety requests that videos run between two to three minutes, with singers performing a capella (no instrumentation), to track, or with acoustic guitar or keyboard accompaniment.

Ten finalists will compete in the Variety’s Got Talent Finals on Feb. 9, 2013 in Vancouver.

Nine of the finalists will be chosen by music industry professionals from Sam Feldman & Associates.

The tenth finalist will be chosen by the public in the People’s Choice Competition. Fans can log onto The Province newspaper’s Web site and vote for their favorite performer from Jan. 27 to Feb. 3, 2013 to select the tenth finalist.

All finalists will perform before a panel of judges and a live audience at the River Rock Show Theatre on Feb. 9, 2013. The winner will be announced at the end of the show and will appear on the Variety Show of Hearts Telethon that airs live on Global BC.

Public votes for their favorite video of the remaining Top 20 audition videos.

The competitor with the most votes will win a spot in the VGT Finals.

Friday, Feb. 8: VGT Boot Camp at Tom Lee Music Granville St (10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

Ten VGT Finalists receive performance, singing, and stylist coaching from industry professionals.

Saturday, Feb. 9: VGT Finals at the River Rock Theatre 7:30 p.m .– 10 p.m.

Top 10 Audition Videos and the Variety ‘People’s Choice’ winner will each perform a song.

The panel of celebrity judges include: Bruce Allen, Steve Darling, Global TV morning news anchor, Stuart Derdeyn, The Province arts columnist.

Tickets for the VGT Finals are $10 plus service charges, and will be available Jan. 6 at www.varietysgottalent.ca.

The VGT Prize:

Rising Star Music Package ($600 Tom Lee gift certificate, songwriting lesson with Colin Wiebe, and TBD).

Appearance on the Variety Show of Hearts Telethon on Global TV BC on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Established in 2011, Variety’s Got Talent attracted hundreds of submissions from singing talents across the province in its first year.  The inaugural winner, Shylo Sharity from Langley has continued to pursue her singing career and opened for Wynona Judd. Last year’s winner, 16-year-old Asha Diaz, just released her first CD ‘Jumpin’ Off’.
