Message from the Assembly of First Nations

The Executive of the Assembly of First Nations is deeply concerned that there are rumors and misinformation regarding our national position and action on Bills C-45 and C-38.

AFN has stood firmly by the directions of the Chiefs in Assembly to oppose these Bills and all Bills negatively impacting Inherent and Treaty Rights.

Presentations, submissions and letters from the National Chief to Ministers and the Prime Minister have been tabled.  The letters are posted again here and we encourage all to read them.

In addition, all of the information is available at www.afn.caand weekly updates have been provided.

Finally, the National Executive is leading a coordinated national plan of action including communication and legal strategies. In fact a legal challenge is already underway with regard to the lack of consultation in relation to Bill C-38, the first of the omnibus bills.

Now is the time to stand together and raise our voices in protection and promotion of our rights and our responsibilities.  We must not let divide and conquer tactics and misinformation erode our abilities to advance and protect our inherent duties and rights.
