The First Nations Fisheries Council (FNFC) is formally inviting First Nation communities across BC to participate in a series of Tier 1 (First Nations only) community dialogue sessions in June and July. The FNFC encourages directors, managers and officers of economic and community development to participate in the community dialogue sessions to explore the opportunities presented by aquaculture development. These discussions will assist in the development of a BC Aboriginal Aquaculture Framework that will inform the national initiative to support aquaculture opportunities for First Nations.
The purpose of these sessions is to:
- Confirm the collective understanding of the opportunities and constraints associated with First Nations involvement in the Canadian aquaculture sector;
- Provide a platform from which to generate insight and innovative advice regarding potential means to address and resolve the identified constraints;
- Use this feedback to facilitate activities and decision-making by First Nations communities and groups, federal and provincial governments, and industry partners for the development of the Aboriginal Aquaculture Engagement Initiative (AAEI)
