Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo is expected to launch his re-election campaign at an event in North Vancouver May 24 at the Chief Joe Mathias Recreation Centre.
Atleo’s supporters are being invited to a “Special Evening” with the national chief beginning at 5 p.m. The event is being organized by Michelle Corfield.
A fundraising event that features a salmon barbecue and live and silent auction will be held in Nanaimo at the Shq’apthut Gathering House, Vancouver Island University, on June 3, also beginning at 5 p.m. This event is being co-ordinated by Vina Robinson.
Both these women were critical to the election team of 2009 and are working hard now to align supporters for this next bid.
Atleo has served one term in the top position of the chiefs’ organization. He was elected in a protracted battle against Saskatchewan’s Perry Bellegarde. The election went a record number of voting rounds.
This year the AFN assembly will take place in Toronto with the election to be held July 18.
