The Alberni Athletic Hall Association is in need of members and they are looking to the Nuu-chah-nulth community and to younger people to join.
Richard Lucas has been on the AAH Association Board of Directors for more than five years and says he is the only first nations board member.
The AAHA directors meet monthly to take care of business related to rental and maintenance of the facility. “AAHA members get a say in what happens at the Alberni Athletic Hall,” said Lucas.
The Hall is used for many first nations gatherings, from basketball tournaments to potlatches and funerals. It is also used for job and health fairs hosted by first nations and the NTC.
The AAH Association meets the first Wednesday of every month except for July and August.
In order to become a member one must attend an AAHA meeting and pay the $5 membership fee.
The next AAHA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Alberni Athletic Hall.
