Message from NTC President and Vice-President on Aboriginal Day

To all our Nuu-chah-nulth people,

On June 21st, we take the time to honour all Indigenous people across Canada. We celebrate and share our culture, our songs, our dances with not only each other but with our non- Aboriginal friends, neighbors and communities with great pride. We do this together to celebrate our successes, contributions and struggles.

It is important to remember that not only on this day, but every day, we must stand together in support of one another against all barriers and especially in celebration of each other’s achievements.

It is with great pride we give thanks to our Nuu-chah-nulth people, including our elders, past leaders and ancestors for paving the way for our people today and for our future generations. It is because of them that we can confidently say our culture and beliefs are built on a solid foundation of our people’s history, values, language and teachings.

“It is because of past leaders', elders', parents' and grandparents' struggles and the fighting for our Aboriginal rights that we have survived – living and thriving. We acknowledge, honor and respect each of their contributions to our people. They have all instilled in each of us to continue to build a proud and strong culture, because of their dedication and leadership to our people,” said Deb Foxcroft, Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council President.

Aboriginal Day is also a day when the rest of Canada should reflect on the ways Indigenous people have impacted our country.

"Aboriginal Day is an opportunity for First Nations to share our culture, who we are and where we come from. In the spirit of reconciliation, we encourage non-Aboriginal people to take the time and learn about our people," said Ken Watts, Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council Vice-President.

It is a proud day to be Nuu-chah-nulth ,because we are strong and resilient people.

Happy Aboriginal Day!

Kleco-Kleco,

Deb Foxcroft

Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council
